Tom Huebner – Bio:
Born in Arizona and raised in Southern California, singer/songwriter and guitarist Tom Huebner resides in Marin County, California and fuses rock, folk, blues and country influences to craft his songs. Tom grew up loving the pop melodies and harmonies of bands like The Beatles and Byrds, as well as the guitar riffs of bands like the Rolling Stones. Later with the advent of the late 60's and early 70's, his ear turned toward much of what was then happening in the L.A. and Northern California country-rock scenes with people and bands like Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Poco, The Eagles, Neil Young, the Grateful Dead and classic country artists like Merle Haggard, Willy Nelson and Waylon Jennings. More recently acclaimed songwriters like Steve Earle, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams and Dave Alvin round out his influences.
Tom co-founded the Bay Area band Key Lime Pie with his long-time friend Evan Palmer in 1989 and was instrumental in the production of the group’s first independent release, entitled Cookin’, in 2000. He left Key Lime Pie in 2001 to pursue a solo career in order to concentrate on his own songwriting. He released his first solo effort, the country-inspired Highway 43, which he co-produced with former Sopwith Camel member Nandi Devam (Terry MacNeil) for Devam's indie label, Camel Records. The album received some critical interest, particularly in Europe.
Tom met singer Dottie Escue in 2006 and in 2007 decided to completely re-vamp his band to include Dottie’s excellent vocal presence. They re-named the band Tom Huebner and the Real Deal and set out to bring a bigger, more exciting act to the stage, featuring great side musicians and tight, compelling harmonies. Since 2007, they have performed their music at festivals, clubs and venues primarily in Northern California, with an eye on touring more widely in the future. They also have plans to return to the studio soon to craft a follow-up release to Highway 43. Tom and Dottie now reside in Fairfax with their family and call West Marin their home.
